Ollsbrim is first mentioned in the calendar of patent rolls as oldsbrom in 1317. It appears throughout the middle ages in various documents and with different spellings. The first element of the word is obscure, but the second element brom could mean a piece of broom-covered land. Possibly ollys could be a medieval personal name olde (gover + mawer + stenton).
