Reichel, O. J., 1908, The Hundred of Haytor in the time of 'Testa de Nevil' AD1244, 130 (Article in Serial). SDV156533.

At Abbotskerswell, Kerswell is the site of the Domesday manor of Carsuella. In 1086 the manor belonged to the Abbey of Horton, later incorporated with Sherborne Abbey. Mentioned in Testa de Nevil in 1244.

Abbotskerswell is first mentioned in a document of 956 as Carswylle and then appears in the Domesday Book as carswella. The name Abbotskerswell appears in a document of 1675.

With the adjoining manor of Ipplepen it formed part of a Saxon estate mentioned in AD956.
