At st. Marychurch, torbay, the site of the domesday estate of ste. Me. Cherche. Also mentioned in "testa de nevil" in 1244 (reichel). The domesday manor of saint marie cherche was held by the earl of moreton in 1086, by ordolph at the time of king edward. But there was another manor of st. Marychurch, probably carved out of the original manor, and presented to the monks of exeter. This was the manor of aecclesia sanctae mariae, held by osbern, bishop of exeter, in 1086, and by bishop leofric in the time of king edward.(brownlow). The manor of aecclesia sanctae mariae was one of the manors recovered by leofric and in the hands of his successor at the time of domesday.(davidson). The site of one of the nine manors which approximately made up the borough of torquay as it was in 1965 (walker).
