Line of a road formerly called the Red Way at the point where the new red marl begins to appear on the surface. This formed part of the boundary of one manse or hide of land at Aet Fleote (later called Seaton) granted by Aethelred in 1005 to a thegn named Eadsig. By the time of the conquest it had become the property of Horton Priory.
