Brightly. Placename. First documented in 1344 (gover et al). Priory farm is the site of a 12th century cistercian priory, see sx59ne/1. The barn may be a chapel, or part of the priory buildings, see sx59ne/35/1. A deerpark once existed at brightly (see sx59ne/26).(unattributed). A religious house was founded at brightley in 1133. By 1141 the small establishment of monks had left to form what eventually became ford abbey (hoskins). The farm now known as the priory farm at brightley was a possession of ford abbey, dorset, until the dissolution. It had a chantry chapel (sherwin).
