Full description

ALEXANDER, Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV219470.

Crebor. This farm may represent a survival of the medieval manor of "creubere", which is mentioned in 12th and 13th century documents relating to tavistock abbey. Then it was held with fishleigh and hannaborough in hatherleigh, but at the end of domesday it formed part of the tavistock manor. It had been held by the abbot of tavistock, but in henry viii's time it was the estate of john hart (reichel). Appears in 13th century list of hundred jurors (alexander).

Buck, C., 2015, Buctor Farm, Tavistock (Report - Assessment). SDV359746.

This study was commissioned by the landowner on behalf of Natural England as part of a Higher Level Environmental Stewardship Agreement Scheme and produced by Cornwall Archaeological Unit, Cornwall Council.

Documentary and place name evidence (Gover et al 1931), for Crebor (Crevebere 1166, Crievebere 1193, Crauber 1228, Creweber 1238 and Creber 1530) meaning ‘Crow Wood’. These references are indicative of the continuity of period range of these settlements and underlining the agricultural character of the landscape.
