Collings, A. G., 2005, Archaeological Assessment of the Crossmead Conference Centre, Barley Lane, Exeter, Site 7 (Report - Assessment). SDV355074.

An archaeological assessment was undertaken at the request of the University of Exeter in order to assess the archaeological implications of development of a site at the Crossmead Conference Centre.
Pocombe Quarry forms the south-west boundary of the site, and was partly in St Thomas and partly in Alphington parish.
A small working on the Alphington side of the boundary was visible on a map of 1801, but workings on the St Thomas side have not been identified before 1828. In 1902 the quarry was described as perhaps the most important quarry in the district. It continued in use until the 1930s. It may have remained in divided ownership throughout its working life, and a linear upstand appears to preserve the parish and property boundary.
