Full description

Cambridge University, 1975, CUC/BTR, 50 (Aerial Photograph). SDV274730.

A near circular enclosure, c.45m diameter, is visible as cropmark on a CUC air photograph. No visible entrance. Other cropmarks showing on the photo appear to be recently removed hedges.

Horner, B., 1991 - 1993, Devon Post-Reconnaissance Fieldwork Project, Ground Images DPRFP AF 16-18 (Un-published). SDV342164.

Site visit 27th May 1992. Site situated toward top of a gentle-moderate slope above a steeper coombe. No earthworks visible due to well advanced barley crop and unable to walk the field.

Exeter Archaeology, 1999, Archaeological Assessment of SWW Rothernbridge to Brynsworthy Water Main: Stage 1 (Rothernbridge to Gammaton Moor) (Report - Assessment). SDV449.

This assessment has been commissioned by South West Water Limited to determine the archaeological implications of Stage 1 of the Rothembridge to Brysnworthy Water Main. This section of pipeline will run from Rothem Bridge in the parish of Frithelstock (SS479196) to Gammaton Moor in the parish of Bideford (SS491245).

An aerial photograph taken in 1975 indicated the existence of a near-circular enclosure, visible as a cropmark. The southern section of the pipeline if option 2 was to be undertaken, would be sited 225 metres from the enclosure.

A site visit in 1992 observed the field covered in barley crop therefore no features were vsible at this time.

Bluesky International Ltd/Getmapping PLC, 2015 onwards, 2015 onward Aerial Photographs (Aerial Photograph). SDV362959.
