Full description

JACKSON, Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV22675.

A weir at topsham was built between 1239 and 1245 by baldwin de redvers, sixth earl of devon. In 1263 citizens of exeter attempted to break it up because of the effect it was having on shipping and fishing. It was built of timber and not so well made as the later "countess weir".(jackson).
