Stable block at Castle Hill. 1843 by Blore, but in same style as mansion.

The stable block was built by Blore in 1843 in the same style as the mansions, with projecting end towers with cupolas (citing DoE 1964).

Stable block approx 5m north-east of Castle Hill house including 2 pairs of gatepiers flanking its western end. The main range is converted to estate offices, with 2 piers of flanking gatepiers. Dated 1843, by Edward Blore, with 20th century alterations. Gatepiers of rusticated ashlar. Overall T-shape on plan. Symmetrical main range. For further details see DoE list. Nineteenth century stables built in Palladian style, T-shaped on plan, with a central cupola. The south range is now estate offices but the eastern wing of the stables is still used as such with original stalls, mangers, cobbled floors and door. Overall the stables are in excellent condition.
Views towards the proposed development in the village are screened by the house. The overall impact is considered to be neutral.
