Full description

Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance Survey 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

Thorne Farm marked comprising a large farmhouse with an adjoining courtyard range of farm buildings which have a pump in the centre. Laid out gardens are shown to the south of the house and extending eastwards, at the eastern end of which is another range of farm buildings. Orchards are shown around the farmstead to the north-east and west.

The site of a medieval farmstead held with its adjunct Cobthorne, or Cobbaton. Held by the Earl of Devon in the early 15th century. It was granted by the crown to Lord Dynham In 1480. It reverted to the manor sometime before 1508.
