Full description
1963, Untitled Source (Report - Survey). SDV281052.
Early nineteenth century single storey five sided building with lancet windows. Photos in nbr (doe). Vis=20/8/1982 (os) a plaque over the southern doorway states that it was built in 1839 and rebuilt in 1974. The "re-building" was evidently extension and restoration (os). Vis= it is a one storey building of grey rubble with ashlar quoins with door and window dressings, which have been recently extended and modified (kanefsky). Vis="old toll house" marked on os 6" provisional (1904/1938) and 6" (1963) maps (os).

A fine sandstone tollhouse on the Starcross to Mamhead road, one mile from Starcross on the north-west corner of a crossroads with two minor roads cutting off the wide sweep the Dawlish road makes to Starcross. This tollhouse was in practically its original condition until recently but has now been extended and modified.
