A partial possible rectilinear ditched enclosure of probable later prehistoric or Roman date was visible on aerial photographs as a cropmark near the summit of a south-west facing spur south of Babylon Lane, Silverton.
The visible cropmark is approximately 3 metres wide and defines a rectangular space roughly 50 by 26 metres in size. It is probable that the enclosure extended further south-east onto the upper slopes of the spur but is obscured by variations in soil depth. A narrower linear cropmark extends from the north-eastern corner of the visible enclosure, which might support the interpretation that further enclosures, possibly field boundaries were associated with the enclosure.
