Full description

Reichel, O. J., 1928 - 1938, The Hundred of Black Torrington in Early Times, 225-226,231,237 (Article in Monograph). SDV2105.

Ashwater was Aissa in Domesday. It was held by the Bishop of Coutances. Before the conquest Alwy held it. In 1166, in the Black Book of the Exchequer, it was held by Walter. In the Testa de Nevil of 1241 it was held by Geoffrey de Dunheved.
