Medieval chapel of St Gabriel within the Bishop's Palace. Founded by Bishop Bronescombe, and later removed by Stapledon to the neighbouring town.

Author reflects on occurrence of dedications to St Gabriel in Devon.

A chantry chapel of St Gabriel was founded in 1276, and served by two priests. In 1311 it was removed to the village of Bishop's Clyst (see PRN 10099).

Chapel rebuilt in 1860. No trace of medieval building, although lower courses may be original.

Chapel at Bishop's Court in Sowton. Three tall correctly 13th century lancets by White; stumpy weathered flying buttresses; 2 lancets to the inner face of chapel, none to the outer. Service range, much more domestic in character, each range separately roofed with patterned slates, and all half-hipped; asymmetrical with a shallow front wing running parallel with the chapel, and a single-storyed gabled-end front wing containing the main service end entrance.
