Palace quarry, chudleigh. Source of very pure stone, yielding a high percentage of lime when burnt - its principal use until recently. Also quarried for building stone since medieval times and can be seen in the remains of the bishop's palace nearby, from which it takes its name. Stone now mainly quarried for road material (anon, 1954).

Palace quarry, chudleigh. Source of very pure stone, yielding a high percentage of lime when burnt - its principal use until recently. Also quarried for building stone since medieval times and can be seen in the remains of the bishop's palace nearby, from which it takes its name.
