Summary

Sherford quarry, one of the 18th century Radford quarries, with three limekilns. Visible as a large pit on images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017, with several smaller shallower earthwork pits to the north and west.

The limestone quarry is visible as a large earthwork pit on aerial photographs taken from the 1940s onwards, and on images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017. There are several smaller shallower earthwork pits in the fields to the north and west, one of which corresponds to a pit depicted on the Tithe map, and several correspond to orchard plots. These are interpreted as earlier phases of extraction, some of which had been long disused by the mid-19th century.
