Summary

Barrow 'D' is one of a group of Prehistoric round barrows or cairns on Crownhill Down. The earthworks are visible on images derived from aerial photographs of 2007 and remains visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2013.

Group of round barrows or cairns on Crownhill Down. Barrow (D) is a round barrow 9.8 metres by 9.2 metres across and up to 0.7 metres high. A 1 metre wide flattish edge to the mound could be the remains of a berm. Other details: Barrow D.

A slightly irregularly shaped mound circa 13 to 15m in diameter is identifiable as an earthwork on aerial photographs of 1951 at circa SX57205982 on the south-west facing slopes of Crownhill Down, overlooking Old Bottle Hill leat. The mound was clearly visible on images derived from aerial photographs of 2007 and remains visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2013. The earthwork is interpreted as a barrow of Bronze Age date.
