Bottle Hill Tin Mine (Disused). (OS 6" 1968)

Documentary evidence of Bottle Hill Mine dates from 1527, and in the middle year of the 19th century it produced 640 tons of black tin, although its principle product was copper, of which it yielded 1000 tons. A number of shafts are still extant, as are the remains of some buildings, but the most prominent feature is the old chimney stack which connected by a flue to the calcining ovens in the valley on the east side . The "Old Bottle Hill Leat" which served the mine can still be traced from the Tory Brook. Nothing is known of the history of the min after its take-over by the Beta Mining syndicate in 1896. (Industrial Archaeology of Dartmoor 1968, 55, 61 Harris, H.; Devon Committee for Rescue Archaeology, August 1979 14-17, Edwards, C.)
