Summary

East knowstone was a manor in domesday (reichel, dcnq). Records of the committee of compounding of mid 17th century show that thomas shapcote was then lord of the manor of east knowstone.(hoskins). East knowstone, including east barton, was chenuestan in domesday. It was held by rolf of walter of douai. Before the conquest it was held by lewin. The manor was later sold to beaupel, and became known as knowstone beaupel. Early descents given.(reichel, 1928-1938).
