Carbonell, B. M. H., 1926-1927, Bow Place-name, 295-6 (Article in Serial). SDV36472.

Bow Bridge. The bridge or 'bow' is the origin of the name of the village.

Carbonell, B. M. H. + Wauton, M., 2002, Untitled Source, 2 (Pamphlet). SDV321149.

'Bow' is said to derive its name from the single-span 12C bridge carrying the highway across the River Yeo. Early arched span bridges were known as 'bows' to distinguish them from flat 'clapper' bridges.
