Full description

ELLIOT, Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV122415.

In may 1908 the brigantine crossowen was wrecked on rocks at yarmouth, or yarner sands. The ship's boat was found stranded on bantham sands. The crew of 7 were drowned in and around the mouth of the avon, the crossowen having struck the outside ledge of burgh island (elliot).

Found on the beach with all sails set and less than 3' of water in the hold, having embarked cargo of china clay the previous day. Possibly struck burgh island and abandoned by crew, who drowned on bantham bar, and were buried in thurlestone churchyard (larn).
