Gribble's map marks the site of the school as over the north gate (8).

The Blue Coat School, North Walk, Barnstaple. The school which had occupied the hall over the north gate was removed to new premises in North Walk when the north gate was demolished in 1842. The 18th century clock which had used to be mounted in the roof of the north gate was removed and re-mounted in the new building. The mechanism of the clock is described in detail.

The Blue Coat School, North Walk, has been demolished but the clock has been preserved and it is planned to re-mount it on the Guildhall, High Street.
