Full description

Reichel, O. J., 1902-1903, Bridge and Caw, 18 (Article in Serial). SDV342372.

Bridge Farm was called Bridge and Caw in the 19th century. The first part of the name may be derived from the word "brugge" or "brige" meaning a borough. The farm lies just outside the borough of Black Torrington.

Skinner, E., 1902-1903, Bridge and Caw, 85 (Article in Serial). SDV342373.

The word Caw could be a lapse in spelling of the word clawa, which in old law meant a close or small enclosure.

Reichel, O. J., 1906 - 1907, Bridge and Caw, 94 (Article in Serial). SDV342371.

The farm's proximity to a bridge is the likely derivation of its name. Caw was once a distinct holding now united with bridge farm.
