Department of Environment, 1959, Torrington RD Provisional List, 10 (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV118.

1843 large stone-built bridge of three arches over the Torridge.


Hadfield, C., 1967, Canals of South West England, 137 (Monograph). SDV58.

The bridge went over both canal (see SS41NE/19) and river. Built by Lord Rolle to serve his new mill (SS51NW/21.

1846. Built by the "munificence" of Lord Rolle. Stone bridge with three large semi-circular arches springing from low cutwaters.

New Bridge. Road bridge over River Torridge. 1843-6 built by Lord Rolle. Coursed rubble stone construction. Three massive roundheaded arches with triangular cutwaters low down on piers. Cambered stringcourse and parapet.
The asset was previously listed twice also at List entry 1332965. That entry was removed from the List on 6 February 2017.
This entry was subject to a Minor Amendment on 6 February 2017.

The GIS triangle depiction was moved slightly from SS4997218392 to SS4997918393. Thus placing it on the parish boundary between Little Torrington and Great Torrington which passes through the building. The grid reference was removed from the Details text.]
