A palm cross in the churchyard is referred to in 16th century documents. It may be the same as the existing churchyard cross, although the implication from Lysson's description is that it was removed in 1557.

Masson Phillips, E. N., 1943, Supplementary Notes on the Ancient Stone Crosses of Devon. (Third Paper), 263 (Article in Serial). SDV320746.

In 1556 three shillings were paid for "peynting the Palm Cross" (Ecclesiastical Antiquities of Devon, unpublished, edited by Col. Harding, 190).

2. Traditionally the Palm Cross stood in the churchyard of St. Brannock, Braunton but its exact site is not known.
3. No information was obtained during field investigation to make a more positive siting possible. No trace was found in churchyard.

According to Lyssons there was a cross in the churchyard called Palm Cross, which was 'kept at great expense' until 1557.

Braunton Palm Cross
In 1556 three shillings were paid for 'Pentyng the Palm Cross'. No trace of this cross now exists.
