Full description

Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

Four discreet groups of houses and buildings, marked as Haccott.

Accott marked. Comparison with the Tithe Map shows the eastern end of the complex to have changed considerably, now comprising a dispersed group of smaller buildings. The group at the western end is still extant with the addition of an L-shaped range on the south side of the southern group.

Accott or Haccot was included in the Manor of Tawton, (Tautona), in the Domesday Book of 1086. Soon after the Conquest, 1066, the Bishop of Exeter gave it to the ancestor of Drogo de Teignton. Early descents given.

Accott is variously spelt as Akecot, Hakecote and Accote in the 13th century.
