Name:Natural feature north-east of Stannon Tor

Summary

A curvilinear line of boulders and some upright slabs 1 metres thick, 0.5 metres high, enclose a slightly sloping platform, on a steep east-facing clitter slope, above Stannon Brook. Previously described as a prehistoric enclosre, survey in 1989 revealed no indication of the antiquity of this feature.

Des=worksheet. Vis=18/10/1982 (greeves) subrectangular post-medieval enclosure at base of clitter on west side of stannon brook. The enclosure is bordered by the clitter on its west side and by a low wall on its east side. Internal dimensions 10m x 5m (worksheet).

(22/02/1989) SX 64908123. A curvilinear line of boulders and some upright slabs 1.0m thick, 0.5m high, enclose a slightly sloping platform, on a steep E-facing clitter slope, above Stannon Brook. The N, W and E sides of the platform are formed by massive outcropping boulders and the grassy area enclosed measures 7.7m N-S by 5.5m E-W. There is no indication of the antiquity of this feature.
