Full description

Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV277079.

Des=dnp survey drawing 1:10560/(-/10/1982)/in lydford parish file. Two leats running south east in newtake south west of stannon tor. Shown on dnp survey 1982. One cuts prehistoric boundary at sx64618057 (survey).

Royal Air Force, 1947, RAF/CPE/UK/1995, 4365-6 (Aerial Photograph). SDV224714.

Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England, 1985, Aerial Photograph Project (Dartmoor) - Dartmoor Pre-NMP (Cartographic). SDV319854.

Southern extent of these two leats not visible on RAF 1947 aerial photograph.

Royal Commission for the Historical Monuments of England, 1987-1993, Duchy Farms Project Survey Visit, M. Fletcher + S. Probert (Report - Survey). SDV350839.

(22/02/1989) [NMR SX68SW72] SX 64448085 to SX 64858056. A leat 1.1m to 1.5m wide, with a maximum depth of 0.6m, runs SE from the S corner of "The Sheepfold" (SX 68 SW 64). It crosses pasture fields below Stannon Tor and is lost in the peat cuttings above Stannon Bottom. Its purpose is puzzling: it might be expected that water would be taken to the starch works and later sheepfold but the slope indicates an opposite flow.
(22/02/1989) [NMR SX68SW74] SX 64319082 to SX 64678048. A leat, 1.0m to 1.2m wide with a maximum depth of 0.3m starts in a small marshy combe NW of The Sheepfold. It runs SE, largely through rough grazing, W of Stannon Tor, cutting newtake walls at SX 64308088 and SX 64638054, before petering out around SX 64668049.
This leat is possibly a detached part of the leat on Greyhound Farm, SX 68 SW 75.
