DIXON, Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV63279.

Walscott mine, poltimore sett. Opencast work began c 1873 for red hematite and white iron. References under the name 'poltimore' in 1873+1878.1889 os map shows 'old iron workings'. The whole valley has been much disturbed by opencast, and its original form is not now apparent. The workings are largely grassed over and used as farm land. The most obvious workings are centred on ss69993214 (subsheet 1). A grass covered dump, 30' by 90', survives on the upper slopes of the w side of the valley. No evidence remains of shafts, wheelpits, leats or buildings (dixon).
