Irregularly shaped pits, incised channels and elongated mounds are visible as earthworks within Colehays Plantation, Bovey Tracey, on aerial photographs taken in 1948 following recent deforestation of the plantation. Earthworks are also visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017. The better-defined earthworks occupy an area of circa 3.70 hectares and are located within the eastern extent of Colehays Plantation. More subtle earthworks are, however, also visible in 1948 continuing further to the west. Given their diffuse and uncertain nature and that they continue beyond the area for this project, they have not been individually transcribed, but instead have been included within an extent of area polygon. It is likely the earthworks within Colehays Plantation represent the extractive pits, stream channels and associated spoil mounds of a medieval or post-medieval streamworks. With exception of an area of housing off Chapple Road, the tin working site is largely unaffected by any recent development and further investigations, such as targeted trenching is recommended to help define the character of these earthworks.
