Russell refers to a fire beacon and st. Catherine's chapel on hartland point. See ss22nw/2. Os consider the site may be at this ngr. Ruinous building seen on the tor c 1810 has eroded into the sea. Excavation in 1903 recovered several artefacts now in 'pope's chamber', stoke church (see ss22sw/3) (hartland quay museum).
