(16/02/1982) At SX 77098778, beside an early farm track entering on to Mardon Down, there is an earthwork, clearly visible on air photographs (1947).
It consists of a square platform, at natural ground level, about 8.0m. square, enclosed by a ditch 4.0m. wide and 0.4m. deep. The upcast from the ditch has created an outer bank some 4.0m. wide and 0.2m. high. There is no causeway or entrance and the apparent depression in the centre of the platform, noticeable on the air photographs, is not obvious on the ground.
The whole is bracken covered, and seems to have been in that state in 1947. Though its purpose is uncertain the impression gained is of a fairly modern work, possibly 19th century or early 20th century, perhaps a platform for a bracken rick since bracken is still cut on Mardon Down for animal bedding.
Of minor archaeological significance and not surveyed at 1:2500 on M.S.D. See sketch plan at 1:500.

Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England, 1985, Aerial Photograph Project (Dartmoor) - Dartmoor Pre-NMP (Cartographic). SDV319854.

Not visible on 1946 RAF aerial photo.

Environment Agency, 2011, LIDAR data JPEG images (2 metre resolution) (Cartographic). SDV348634.

Platform and bank visible.

Griffith, F. M., 21/05/1986, Platform on Mardon Down (Personal Comment). SDV295903.

Site visit 17th May 1986. As described by the Ordnance Survey in 1982. It is quite odd and no immediate parallels spring to mind.
