Summary

Fleming's site B; house 1, excavated in the 1970s. A stone built hut circle built onto, and later than the Venford Reave. The hut circle is 5.0 metres in diameter with internal facing stones. Timber huts were indentified to the west and north-east of this hut.

Des=fleming, a. /informal interim report/(1981)/in smr. Site 'b'. Site of excavation at junction of one of the parallel reaves of the dartmeet system with venford reave. The terminal reave was shown to have been built in one style with a ditch on its southern side. In the settlement area a wooden house and a stone hut circle were investigated together with over 120 post and stake holes. Possibly the ancillary buildings of a bronze-age farmyard (fleming, 1981).

Fleming's Holne Moor, Site B, Houses I-II, House A, part of the Holne Moor parallel reave system.
House I: A stone built hut circle built onto, and later than the Venford Reave (SX 67 SE 96). The hut circle is 5.0 metres in diameter with internal facing stones.
House II: Discovered to the west of House I in the adjacent field, this was a circular timber building, 6.0 metres in diameter, and had a south-east facing porch.
House A: This almost abuts House I on its north-east side, and comprises a circle of post-holes 3.0 metres in diameter.
Neither wooden building could be proven to pre-date the reave or House I.

(25/04/1996) SX 67827087. A hut circle lies in open ground adjacent to the terminal reave of the Dartmeet parallel reave system (SX 67 SE 94) W of Venford Reservoir. The hut possesses a level interior 4.7m in diameter with low boulder walls 0.8m wide and 0.5m high.
