The mill produced a substance used in leather dye in the early 20th century. Mills powered by gas, later diesel. When the tannery closed in 1913, the mill turned to animal feed. This could possibly be the site of the mill mentioned in the Domesday Survey but this was more likely to have been on the other side of the road, near Brookside.
