A former trackway or causeway was visible on aerial photographs of the 1940s as an east-west aligned linear earthwork bank on the east-facing slopes overlooking Ridge Farm, Stockland parish.
The visible earthwork was circa 120 metres long an broadens from circa 5 metres wide at its eastern end to 10 metres wide at its western end. The earthwork corresponds with a track depicted on the Tithe Map for Stockland and an embanked track on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25 inch map, and therefore predates the mid-19th century. The mounds described by the above authority were not identified by the survey; if these were spoil mounds this might support an interpretation that the track was associated with mining or extractive activity.
