Small holdings of higher + lower worden (or wordon) was a single tenement in 1780 owned by john woollicombe + william calmady but was divided by their two families by 1841 (weddell + reed).

There has been an inn at Sourton Cross for at least 200 years. In a field adjoining the inn, there used to be a barn that was formerly an ale house, dating from the early 19th century. Unfortunately when the road was widened, the barn was demolished.
