The possibility of a shrunken or deserted hamlet at heathstock, stockland, is suggested by its topography as shown on os 6" 1906. It lies at the junction of several routes, and an area c 250m long is enclosed by 'front lane' and 'back lane'. Site now only occupied by 3 farms. Recorded as 'haystock' in 1606 (mawer et al). Does this represent an oe origin? no early references available in dro - try dorset ro some time.(fmg).

Two possible linear banks were visible on digital images derived from lidar data as slight earthworks on the north-west facing slopes between Front and Back Lane at Heathstock, Stockland parish. The earthworks are aligned roughly north-east to south-west and may be evidence of a property division possibly supporting the suggestion of a shrunken or deserted hamlet of medieval date in this location.
