Single stone clapper bridge, 11 feet 8 inches long and 3 feet 7 inches wide at the centre. At the western end the date 1705 and the initials G. R. are inscribed and near the middle is carved the date 1737 and the letters B. D. A.
Greeves, T., 22/06/1983, Clapper Bridge (Worksheet). SDV170411.
Site visit 21st June 1983. Clapper bridge comprising two large slabs across the Dean Burn. The eastern most slab has several dates inscribed on it. The dates 1705 and 1737 are the most obvious. The lettering B may represent just the letter B or a combination of I and B. The date above 1737 is very worn but 1601 is a possibility. The TB 1968 is crudely done but seems fairly clear. The other slab does not appear to have anything incised upon it.
