Full description
National Monuments Record, 1980, SX8664:SF, 1743/172 (Aerial Photograph). SDV340966.
Aerial photograph of Compton Castle shows a feature apparently double banked with a ditch in between forming one quadrant of a circle. No traces of the rest. Shown as hedgebank on some maps, but fits oddly in rest of field pattern. Occupies end of a spur situation.

An aerial photograph appears to show a cropmark feature of a double-banked earthwork with an intermediate ditch on the end of a spur south-east of the castle. The feature was not located on the ground during this landscape survey (2006-7), and may in fact reflect the topography. A hedgebank is shown on the 1972 and 6 inch County series Ordnance Survey maps. Other details: Site Inventory map (2) 079.
