To encourage use of the Mill Hill 'Cut' canal a limekiln and wharf were constructed here in 1819. Jutting into the modern road is a large warehouse-like building known as The Granary, and under it used to be a wharf or basin with mooring rings let into its walls. The basin was filled in 1912.

The granary is now a private house. Flat garden to north may represent site of basin.
