Nmr ap (1979) by john hampton records hitherto unknown earthwork site at burcombe. A substantial enclosure sited on a spur is a fat oval, approx 80m x 50m with broad banks. Attached to the sw side is a crescent shaped bank, again broad, giving an annexe or small ?bailey. Conceivably a small medieval ringwork? placename 'burcombe' suggests antiquity of the site. Possibly the earlier medieval site of present day burcombe, rebuilt in 17th century. See ss72nw/24 (fmg).
