Full description

Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV1142.

Vis=19/12/1983 (quinnell, fletcher + coles) about 1.5ha of permanent pasture. A wide, embanked trackway runs n-s. To each side a series of closes and platforms set on terraces. According to mr coles there is no tradition or record of settlement here, but the site appears to be one of medieval desertion (worksheet).

Miller, A., Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV13030.

The site is visible on 1947 aps, but little detail is clear. Rapid examination of aps suggests presence of a number of linear features (possibly farming enclosures and at least one possible pond) visible c.700m nnw of briscotts cottage (miller).

A number of earthwork bank and ditched features are visible on aerial photographs here. They have been interpreted as a possible medieval field system and or the remains of the deserted settlement of Chaddlehanger (MDV21699).

Environment Agency, 2011, LIDAR data JPEG images (2 metre resolution) (Cartographic). SDV348634.

Earthworks, platforms and lynchets visible on Lidar image. Map object based on this source.

Hegarty, C., Knight, S. and Sims, R., 2016, Backlog Recording of the Tamar Valley National Mapping Programme Survey (Personal Comment). SDV359374.

It is largely unclear from the NMP database record alone, which of the earthworks transcribed here are associated with this record. The earthworks mostly appear to represent the remains of former field boundaries, although a number of the earthwork ditches more likely represent watercourses of post-medieval to modern date. Only part of the photo reference is given in the transcription attributes, so the date of the photograph is not known.
