Full description

Kingsbridge. Market granted to the Abbot of Buckfast in 1220. Represented at the eyre by six jurors of its own in 1244. A rent per annum 'as by the other burgesses' in 1295. Taxed as a borough in 1306.

Kingsbridge was carved out of Churstow parish circa 1220, when the market was granted. The lands of Churstow parish equated roughly to the Domesday estate of Norton held by the Abbot of Buckfast in 1086.
