There was at Bickington, until a few years ago, a fine examle of the earlier small farmhouse. The front door opened directly into the house-place which occupied the centre of the building and was open to the roof. At each end were separate rooms with bedrooms over, each approached by a separate stair. A rear wing had been added about 1620 with a good Jacobean staircase.
