Sub--oval and irregularly shaped pits, between 12m to 30m in length, are visible as earthworks on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017, at Bearah, Ogwell. The visible earthworks do not correspond with any pit features depicted in this location on the available 19th century mapping, although do coincide with an area of woodland on the late 19th century Ordnance Survey First Edition map. The earthworks are interpreted as extractive pits of post-medieval or early 19th century date which had likely passed out of use when the area was given over to woodland by the late 19th century. The earthworks are not visible on other available aerial imagery owing to thick tree cover.
