A large pit is visible on aerial photographs of 1946, as an earthwork at least 36m across to the south of Luton, Bishopsteighton. The pit corresponds with Plot 203 depicted on the Tithe map for Bishopsteighton, listed as Kiln and Quarry. An earthwork platform or terrace defining the north-west extent of the quarry corresponds to the location of a lime kiln shown on the Ordnance Survey 25inch First Edition map. The pit is interpreted as probably a limestone quarry associated with the lime kiln. The quarry and lime kiln are marked as disused on the circa 1906 Ordnance Survey 25inch Second Edition map.
The pit is not identifiable as a significant earthwork on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2013 and has probably been filled and levelled.
