Name:The Lee Moor Tramway in the Parish of Shaugh Prior

Summary

A 1327m long tramway built to carry china clay from Cattlewater Quay, Plymouth. It first opened in 1854 but closed down almost immediately because of an accident. Having been almost entirely rebuilt, it reopened in 1858. From 1899 to 1947 it had 3 different forms of traction - steam, gravity and horse - working together. The line was dismantled in 1961. Much of the track can be traced.

This 1327m long tramway was built to carry china clay from cattlewater quay, plymouth. Opened in 1854, it closed down almost immediately because of an accident. The route of the Avon SWW pipeline crossed the tramway at a point where the latter was set on a large embankment. The tramway was tunnelled under for the pipes, below any archaeological levels.
