Stepps is a two storey, flint and rubble house, with a thatched roof. It has wood casements, some with leaded lights. Sixteenth century and later.

Site visit with P. Child 12th March 1977. A two storey house built of flint stone with limestone (?Beer) dressings under a thatched roof. It appears have originated as a three room and cross passage type house to which a two room range and a lean to have subsequently been added.
The original part of the house has a jointed cruck in the roof. It is not smoke-blackened suggesting that the fire place in the hall is original. The fire place has two moulded stone corbels which were clearly not designed for the ceiling they now partly support. The hall ceiling has intersection beams with multiple mouldings which appear to be mid 16th century.
The lower of the two first floor rooms has a date stone – R R 16…, said to have read 1648.

House, used as club premises. C16 former open hall now floored. Stone rubble and flint. Thatched roof with gabled ends. Long two storey widely-spaced six window range, right hand recessed slightly. One, two, three and five-light casements with leaded panel. Heavy timber four-centred arch doorway to left of centre. Dripmould over window in east gable end. Ovolo moulded and chamfered mullion windows at rear. Two external stone chimney stacks on front with set offs and moulded caps. Stone end and ridge stacks with moulded caps, end stack corbelled, and two rebuilt ridge stacks. Small circa C18-C19 stone rubble lean-to addition to left. Interior: jointed cruck trusses, three plank and muntin screens, one with blocked pointed arch doorway, the other with four-centred arch doorway. The screen to cross-passage has been removed. Heavy stopped chamfer ceiling beams. Open fireplace with chamfered stone surround. Another stone chimneypiece with chamfered four-centred arch and another with C19 moulded wood chimneypiece. C17 moulded plaster frieze on first floor with acanthus leaves and date "16..".
