Summary
Newton abbot to torre branch. Opened 18/12/1848. It ran independent of the main line from a separate shed at newton abbot. Originally intended to be atmospheric, it was never constructed as such. The line was continued to paignton on 2/8/1859, to churston on 14/3/1861 and finally, to kingswear on 16/8/1864. The torquay branch was doubled to kingskerswell in 1876, torquay in 1882 and paignton in 1905.(thomas).
